About Me

Hi, I’m Jameel, a video journalist and currently the Video Lead at Newsquest Media Group—one of the UK’s largest regional news publishers. I specialise in digital video, social-first content, and long-form storytelling, bringing depth, clarity and creativity to everything from breaking news explainers to documentaries.

At Newsquest, I lead video output across a wide portfolio of local news brands. I pitch, script, edit, source and oversee a broad range of video content including interviews, breaking news, and evergreen videos. I work closely with local reporters, supporting them in creating video for their articles and social media channels. I also provide training across all NQ newsrooms to help enhance video production skills and encourage more confident, creative storytelling on screen.

My background is rooted in curiosity and a genuine love for storytelling. I come from a working-class British-Bengali Muslim family, and I’ve always understood the impact stories have—and how they shape the way we see the world and each other. While I grew up glued to documentaries and the 6 o’clock news, I now find myself behind the camera, sometimes in front of it, and in the edit suite—working to bring those kinds of stories to life.

My journalism is guided by three simple values: accuracy, empathy, and integrity.
